  • Course Listings for MIT in Sunday School (Winter 2016)

by Tom Hicks on February 2, 2016

MIT in Sunday School – Winter 2016
    Sunday Morning, 9:15am
    February 14 – April 17

    Ministries of Mercy
    Instructor: Cole Portis
    Room: 321 (Adult 4)
Text: Ministries of Mercy: The Call of the Jericho Road by Tim Keller – $15.00
Description: The widow next door, the family strapped with medical bills, the homeless man outside our church. God calls us to help them, whether they need shelter, assistance, medical care, or just friendship. This is the job of every believer, as fundamental to Christian living as evangelism, discipleship, and worship.

Ladies Study: Reflections on Christ that Change Us
    Instructor: Joy Hicks
    Room: 330 (Adult 2)
Text: Through the Looking Glass: Reflections on Christ that Change Us by Kris Lundgaard – $13.00
Description: What makes your favorite hero shine in your eyes? Whatever heroic traits pop into your mind, obedience and suffering may not be among them. Yet it’s in Christ’s obedience to God’s law and His suffering the curse of that law for us that we see Him as our conquering Hero. And by looking upon Him as our Hero, we worship Him, and our hearts are changed into His likeness.

Expositional Studies in the Sermon on the Mount
    Instructor: Judd Hough
    Room: Chapel
    Text: Selections in Matthew 5-7
Description: This course will be an exposition of selections from Christ’s teachings in the Sermon on the Mount. In this passage of Scripture, Christ expounds the law of God, showing what He requires, and teaching that His true disciples keep His commandments from the heart.

    Systematic Theology 2
    Instructor: Tom Hicks
    Room: 331 (Adult 1)
Text: Bible Doctrine by Wayne Grudem – $20.00
Description: Systematic theology seeks to provide a coherent presentation of the doctrinal teachings of the Bible. Every Christian needs to keep a framework for the whole Christian faith in his mind. If you’ve never studied systematic theology before, or if you need a refresher course, we invite you to join us! This course will cover the nature of human beings, sin and the fall, the person and work of Christ, and the grace of God.

Purpose statement: M.I.T. exists to train believers in biblical, systematic, historical, and practical theology for the purpose of equipping them to live faithfully before God and others in every sphere of life.

What is M.I.T. in Sunday School? M.I.T. Stands for “Morningview Institute of Theology,” and we’re now offering it during the Sunday School hour. It’s designed to provide instruction in various biblical theological and practical themes and to provide tools to equip students to study the Bible for themselves.

Who can participate? All adults in Sunday School are encouraged to participate.

When is it offered? M.I.T. in Sunday School will be offered during the Sunday School hour in two 10 week quarters per year.

What is expected of me? Faithful attendance, and we ask that you come to class with an eagerness to study God’s Word, and become more Christ-like in your everyday walk.

Is there a cost? Not for the class itself, just for the textbook.

Where do I purchase my book? Books will be sold the first day of class, but they may also be purchased from Amazon and other online bookstores.

Is pre-registration required? No. Simply attend the first week of the class of your choice, and that will count as your registration.
