• ON BEING A SENDING CHURCH

by Shawn Merithew on September 15, 2010

Have you ever stopped to think how good we have become at “receiving?”  It’s not hard.  In fact, we like it, and we benefit from it.  When we are born, we receive care and love and the basics of life from our parents.  As we grow, we receive teaching (more…)

  • Don Whitney on "PRAYING THROUGH SCRIPTURE"

by Shawn Merithew on August 31, 2010

Many Christians feel defeated in their prayer lives.  To pray even five-to-seven minutes seems like an eternity, and their minds wander much of that time.  “I guess it’s me,” many conclude.  “I’m just a second-rate Christian.”  No, if you are indwelled by the Holy Spirit and generally seeking to live in obedience to God’s Word, then the problem likely isn’t you, but your method.  Of course, there is no method that will enliven prayer for those who do not have the Holy Spirit.  But (more…)

  • PRAY FOR THE MEN’S RETREAT

by Shawn Merithew on August 10, 2010

This weekend, we will have our fourth annual Men’s Leadership Retreat, and I hope you will be in prayer for all those who will be attending.  I know that so many of my Family articles are concerned with such calls to pray, and that is because prayer is so essential to our individual lives and to the life of our church.  Prayer is to the Christian spirit (more…)

  • A THEOLOGY OF CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP

by Shawn Merithew on August 3, 2010

  • MEN IN THE HOME: ON BEING THE PRIMARY "WASHER"

by Shawn Merithew on July 27, 2010

I have a question for all of our men this week — What do you wash around your home?  Do you wash clothes?  How about the dishes?  What about the family cars?  How about the children before bedtime?  Is there an off-chance you do windows?  The truth is that we may find ourselves washing many different things in the course of an average week, (more…)

by Shawn Merithew on July 20, 2010

As most of you know by now, in business meeting this past Sunday evening, we voted to enter in to partnership with “Lifesong,” a ministry that financially administrates domestic and international adoptions.  As a church family, we have now set aside $100,000 from our designated ministry fund that Lifesong will help us administrate for Morningview families (more…)

  • HOW EXCITED DO YOU GET ABOUT BUSINESS MEETINGS?

by Shawn Merithew on July 13, 2010

If you are like most church members, the only business meetings that seem to generate a lot of excitement for you are those that are the most controversial.  When everything is going well in the church, our business meetings are sparsely attended.  This truth leads me to believe that we have come to a place where we take our (more…)
