Volunteer Service on Campus
People are needed to help in the baptistry rooms as people prepare to be baptized and as baptisms are completed.
This is an important safety ministry that secures the building during and after weekly services and patrols children’s areas during ministry times.
Prime Timer’s (Senior’s Luncheon)
Our Seniors meet monthly for a delicious lunch and to hear a special speaker. Many people are involved in planning, decorating, and serving at this monthly event.
Ushers and Greeters
Our ushers and greeters welcome people at each of our entrances on Sundays, distribute materials for our services and meetings, collect the offerings, and help with any service needs that arise. They are the smiling faces that welcome you.
Our Encouragers help welcome new members and prospects through the invitation and in our decision room. They also are paired with new members to assist them and help them get involved in church life.
New Member’s Class
Our New Member’s class is 6 weeks long and meets during the Sunday School hour. This team greets new members, provides refreshments, assists with in-class administrative needs, and helps new members get assigned to ministry areas.
Senior Adult Visitation
This team organizes visits and meals for shut-ins, delivers tapes or CD’s to seniors, helps seniors with transportation needs, and ministers to the needs of our senior adults by facilitating phone and prayer contacts.
Intercessory Prayer Room
This is an opportunity whereby an individual has a designated one hour every week to be in our prayer room interceding on behalf of others.
Wednesday Fellowship Supper
Volunteers serve (not cook) supper for the church family on Wednesday night, and clean up Armstrong Hall and the kitchen afterwards.
People seem to connect with each other around food and fun. Our hostess oversees use of the kitchen and, as needed, invites your help for church fellowships.
If you love to sing and have special passion for worship (shouldn’t we all?) then this ministry is for you. This group rehearses every week to lead our congregation in worship each Sunday morning. Bring a worshipping heart and we’ll teach you the rest!
This ministry team works every fall to prepare and perform the music for our annual Christmas Celebration. Unlike the adult choir, they only perform for Sunday morning services during the month of December. Rehearsal schedules vary from year to year, but generally happen during the adult choir’s regular Wednesday evening rehearsal in the late September through the first week of December.
The Bible tells not only that we should praise the Lord, but that we should do so with all kinds of instruments. If you play an instrument, or used to, we’d love to help you offer up your gift to the Lord in a sacrifice of praise. There are opportunities for occasional to regular leadership in worship for all kinds of instrumental gifts.
Worship Ministry Support
This ministry focuses on meeting the administrative “behind the scenes” needs of the worship ministry. Activities are mostly clerical in nature. Those with backgrounds in office work are ideal for this team. Service times are available during all hours in which the church office is open.
This ministry functions as a “one-stop” solution for the church’s Bible study resource needs. Resources include both books and audio recordings. Resources are available for checkout and purchase.
Sound Technicians/System Operation
This team exists to support our worship services by operating and maintaining all of the technical equipment which allows our congregation to hear and see everything that goes on in worship services with clarity and without distraction. Frequency of service varies with the number of currently trained operators. Team Members should have a minimum familiarity with computers and electronics.
Providing care for children, birth through four years old, during worship services is a vital ministry for our congregation and visitors. Parents having children within these ages must serve every nine weeks. As our preschool departments continue to grow it takes many additional volunteers to staff Worship Care properly requiring two or more in each room. Schedules, as well as reminder cards, are sent to those who serve.
For festive occasions such as Christmas and Easter there is a need for ladies who enjoy decorating and working with flowers. There will be specific work days for the decorations to be placed around the church and taken down in a timely manner. Upon signing up you will be contacted with more detailed information about any and all up coming events needing decoration. We will not be offended if there is man or two who would like to come along to help with the heavy work.
Students on Mission
Help our students fulfill the ‘great commission.’ Our student worship & missions time is called “Fuel” and meets on Wednesday nights. We need small group mission team leaders to help prepare teams to serve locally at different mission projects. Team leaders help student teams of 10-12 select a project, organize their gifts and carry out their local mission. Mission teams serve on Saturdays, twice a semester.
Volunteers are needed to help with occasional maintenance, equipment needing to be fixed and event set-ups. Your involvement may be just for one-time projects, but would be greatly appreciated.
FUEL Small Group Leader
‘FUEL’ is our Wednesday night student worship service. We meet from 6-7:30 pm.
FUEL is about 55 minutes of worship and teaching and 35 minutes in small groups.
Small group leaders are needed to lead discussions based on the bible study and help us plan for regular local mission projects during the small group portion of FUEL. Leader discussion guides are provided for you. You’ll work with a same gender group of 6-8 students once a week during our 90 minute Wednesday evening FUEL. This is a great way entry way to being involved with students.
This ministry involves helping students learn God’s word and develop maturity through classes and programs designed especially for their age groups. This team meets on Sunday nights during the adult M.I.T. time from September through May.
Student Sponsor Team
Regularly we have need for financial/resource sponsors to help meet needs for our student mission trips and retreats. Donations can be partial or the full amount for the event.
Several times a year a landscaping crew is needed to prune trees and shrubbery, plant flowers, lay pine straw and clean flower beds.
Our vehicles need regular upkeep and drivers for ministry events. A good driving record is required, but not a CDL.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is held one week each year during the month of June from 9:00am to 12:00 noon. Many adults and youth will be needed to share God’s love with all who attend. Be sure to sign up in the area of your giftedness. Can’t help that week? There are other places of service and help!
Station Leaders are the core of VBS. This is for adults and older youth that love to plan and teach children about Jesus’ love. Children will be divided into 4 groups and rotate through each station on a daily basis to hear God’s Word and participate in focused activities.
You will have a very important role as a crew leader. You do not prepare anything! You will be placed in one of the 4 groups with the same 3-5 children that you will be responsible for the entire week. One required training meeting before VBS will acquaint you with all of the particulars.
People are needed to assist with receiving children preregistered and enrolling others. Additional responsibilities are taking a head count for the kitchen crew and keeping up with daily rolls.
We go all out for VBS. If you can be a part of the team for building sets and decorating the different stations, we can use you. All of this work is done ahead of time.
Preschool VBS/Nursery Staff
We have a VBS for 3-5 year old children and provide childcare for those who are working on a daily basis. If you have a passion for infants through preschoolers, this is your niche.
We desire to be an evangelistic presence in our community and in our world. These are many of the ways that we accomplish the Great Commission:
Monthly G.R.A.C.E. Evangelism Teams
Go out in teams to share the Gospel in our community on Tuesday nights at 6:30 PM. Each team only goes out once per month; so, this is a 1 ½ hour per month commitment. We also have one Sunday afternoon team that meets at 3:30 PM on the first Sunday of each month. We are in need of new team members to tell others about the way of salvation in Christ!
Evangelism Prayer Teams
Prayer is critical to the ministry of evangelism. Prayer teams meet at the church to pray for the G.R.A.C.E. team while they are out visiting. But you can also be a prayer partner, even from your own home.
Operation Christmas Child Volunteer
Help is needed to champion this ministry in each Sunday School Department. OCC has many needs: prayer, bringing a shoe box with the items requested, and financial gifts. Volunteers are needed to take collected shoe boxes to drop off points for further transport.
Local Missions Teams and Community Service Days
We also seek to serve our own church body and our community through acts of service and the ministry of the Word. If you have a heart to serve the Montgomery area and an occasional Saturday to give, sign up now!
International Missions Teams
We send teams overseas periodically to preach, witness, serve, and build churches. If you have a heart for world missions and time to make the trip, then indicate your interest here.
Missions Training Events
We host periodic missions training events to equip our church family for community ministry as well as global missions. You can attend and learn or help organize these events!
