As we transition to Second Samuel, we have an Amalekite arriving in Ziklag to inform David of Israel’s loss as well as the deaths of Saul and Jonathan. The man arrives with Saul’s crown and bracelet, and in order to ingratiate himself to David, he lies and says that he is the one who killed Saul. This lie ultimately results in David commanding his execution. In this sermon, we explore the importance truthfulness, the response of godly grief, and what a true fear of God looks like.
