By the time of Christ, the Jewish religious leaders had developed so many laws governing activity on the Sabbath that the day had become anything but a day of rest. In this passage, we have Jesus healing a woman who had suffered an affliction from a demon for 18 years, and the synagogue ruler became indignant with Jesus. From their exchange, we learn again about our spiritual need, our Savior's compassion, the danger of legalism, and God's true heart for the Sabbath.
