Here in chapter 17, we find Ahithophel continuing to advise Absalom about the best way to solidify his rule: he must eliminate his father. Absalom will not be the first king of Israel to seek David's death, but he will be the last, and he will fail just as miserably as Saul did. What we see through this episode is God's hidden sovereignty and unwavering purpose operating to Frustrate His enemies, Protect His people, and Provide for His chosen King.
