The Gift of the Atonement
“My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?” These are the words uttered by Jesus as He hung on the cross for our sins, and they are the first words of Psalm 22, which is an explicit Messianic Psalm foretelling the death of God's Annointed One. Coincidence? Hardly. God means for His children to understand His words from the cross as an invitation to read His words in Psalm 22, and thereby behold the wonder of how the Father's plan for atonement was foretold and fulfilled.
