If you are someone who would order the death of one of your own loyal friends to cover up your sin, and then have that same loyal friend unknowingly deliver the order that ends his life, you are a cold-blooded, sadistic person. That is David in this text. That is the level this king of Israel had sunk to in order to cover up his sin of adultery. When we consider David's darkest hour, we are brought to see the destructive power of sin when it is indulged. We must instead run to Christ!
